The Green Stinkweed Locust grasshopper (Phymateus Viridipes) is a colorful grasshopper found throughout southern Africa.
The Green Stinkweed Locust can swarm in large numbers when conditions are suitable. During swarms, they fly long distances at significant heights.
They expel a foul-smelling odorous foam to defend themselves against predators. The foam is toxic and likely contains the poisons found in Stinkwood plants. They are common to grassland habitats, but they may be found in gardens and other cultivated areas, too.
