A lucky fisherman off the coast of the Western Isles caught an extremely rare one in 10 million orange lobster. Oran Boyd, 23, from Barra, discovered the extremely rare lobster while traveling aboard the Isabella CY 464.
The extremely rare orange lobster was sent to the fish processing firm Barratlantic where they placed it in a tank where people can visit it.
According to the National Lobster Hatchery, the chances of a European lobster being orange is said to be one in 10 million.
Boyd hopes that the rare orange lobster will go to an aquarium and not be eaten. The general manager at Barratlantic Christina Macneiil, 55, said the lobster “A young local fisherman brought the lobster into us on Friday after catching it in his creel.”
“We didn’t realize how rare it was until we googled it.”
“We are not sure what will happen to it yet, but it will not be sold.”
“He weighs about 650g and is about 18 inches long.”
