In a recent interview with Apple Music, 50 Cent shared insights into the making of his hit record “Magic Stick” and how it ended up featuring Lil Kim instead of Trina. The rapper opened up about the original plan to collaborate with Trina, the unexpected turn of events, and the decision to bring Lil Kim on board.
During a backstage discussion at a London concert on The Final Lap Tour, 50 Cent revealed that “Magic Stick” was initially intended for his album ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin” but didn’t make the final cut due to space constraints.
Explaining the situation, 50 Cent stated, “Get Rich had 20 songs. I had no room for ‘Magic Stick,’ which was written for the album. I specifically wrote that record with the intention of collaborating with Trina. However, things took an unexpected turn when she messed up the record.”
50 Cent described how the lyrics and overall quality of the song didn’t meet his expectations after sending it to Trina. Recognizing the potential of the track, music executive Gee Roberson intervened, expressing the need for Lil Kim to take the spotlight. According to 50 Cent, Roberson said, “Yo, I need this for Kim. I need it.”
Elaborating on the decision, 50 Cent pointed out that Trina’s version lacked the formula for success in their culture, specifically the essential element of sexuality. He acknowledged Trina’s previous efforts but highlighted that “Magic Stick” perfectly aligned with Lil Kim’s style, citing it as the ideal fit for her.
