Precious Bland, the Florida woman found not guilty by reason of insanity in the drowning death of her 15-month-old daughter, is responding publicly after the court’s ruling sparked widespread criticism.
In response to those criticizing the verdict, Bland said:
“Everybody needs grace, and what happened to me could happen to anybody, including those people who made those comments.”
The case drew national attention after a judge ruled that Bland was legally insane at the time of the incident and therefore not criminally responsible under Florida law.
Following the ruling, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that his office plans to draft articles of impeachment against the judge who presided over the case.
“It’s time to impeach this judge. My office will be drafting articles of impeachment, and we look forward to working with all legislators who will support,” Uthmeier said.
The case continues to generate debate over the insanity defense, judicial decisions, and how the legal system handles severe mental illness.
💬 Do you believe the insanity defense is applied appropriately, or should the law be changed?
