Russell Simmons recently found himself taken aback when served legal documents in two separate lawsuits while in Indonesia.
A process server managed to locate him at the Gdas Bali Health & Wellness Spa to deliver notices related to a defamation case and a sexual assault lawsuit.
Based on court documents Simmons received service on March 5, with affidavits of service being filed on Friday, March 22. Daniel Ayoub, the process server, recounted the encounter, revealing Simmons’ visible displeasure at the situation.
Upon being handed the envelope, Simmons expressed his frustration with colorful language, indicating his surprise at being served.
Ayoub also reported Simmons speaking with what seemed to be his legal counsel, questioning how the servers managed to locate him and whether he should immediately review the documents or wait.
Ayoub clarified that he served Simmons on behalf of the state of New York, referencing the defamation suit filed by Drew Dixon in New York Supreme Court.
Dixon, a former Def Jam employee, had previously accused Simmons of sexual assault in the 2020 documentary “On the Record.”
The current lawsuit arises from remarks Simmons made on the In Depth with Graham Besinger podcast in December 2023.
Dixon’s lawsuit alleges that Simmons engaged in a deliberate and damaging campaign to discredit her, aiming to undermine her credibility as a witness to his actions.
