In a recent episode of the popular All the Smoke podcast hosted by former NBA stars Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Busta Rhymes delved into his profound connection with the late rapper 2Pac, shedding light on a particularly unforgettable studio session.
The Brooklyn rap icon reminisced about his close bond with ‘Pac and recounted an extraordinary moment during a studio session with the renowned All Eyez On Me artist.
“Upon his return from Atlanta, where he faced legal issues involving an off-duty police officer, ‘Pac was deeply wary, feeling constantly threatened by law enforcement regardless of his location,” Busta Rhymes shared.
“He was heavily armed. In his home studio, he had an MPC beat machine, and I vividly remember witnessing him crafting about seven distinct songs using the same Isley Brothers sample. Each track explored a different theme. It was mind-boggling to me.
“After a while, I grew weary of the repetitive beat. I couldn’t fathom how he could continue to draw inspiration from it. Personally, I prefer to switch things up creatively. Once I’ve composed one song to a beat, I’m ready to move on. But ‘Pac, he crafted seven songs to that very beat!”
This insightful anecdote offers a glimpse into the creative process of one of hip-hop’s most legendary figures and underscores the depth of his artistic genius.
