Tory Lanez’s highly publicized Prison Tapes series has come to an unexpected halt after prison officials confiscated his recording equipment. The rapper, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, had been recording music behind bars at California Correctional Institution.
According to TMZ, his equipment was seized during a recent raid by prison guards.
The news was confirmed by Ceasar McDowell, CEO of Unite the People and a key member of Lanez’s legal team. McDowell revealed that prison officials have strict regulations against inmates possessing recording devices, leading to the crackdown on Lanez’s makeshift studio.
Lanez launched the Prison Tapes series in July, treating fans to nine tracks recorded from within the prison walls, alongside previously unreleased music from his Lost Tapes and Twitch Tapes collections.
Upon announcing the project, Lanez shared that he had perfected a method to maintain professional-quality sound while recording music over the prison phone.
In a phone call shared on Instagram, Lanez enthusiastically proclaimed, “After countless attempts, me and my engineer finally figured out how to record music over the jail phone while keeping the same studio quality.”
He added, “I’ve cracked the code! These prison walls can’t stop me from dropping new heat. I’m about to release the ‘Free Tory’ playlist, which will be updated weekly with new tracks I’m recording in real-time.”
Lanez also expressed his unwavering spirit despite his incarceration, stating, “This is only temporary, and no matter where I am, they can’t imprison my soul, my ambition, or my destiny.”
While the future of Prison Tapes is uncertain following the confiscation of his equipment, Tory Lanez’s determination to keep creating music, even under the harshest conditions, has left a lasting impression on his fans.
