Sting’s classic 1983 hit with The Police, “Every Breath You Take,” famously sampled by Diddy in his tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. titled “I’ll Be Missing You,” continues to hold a special place in the English rock legend’s heart.
Despite recent accusations against Diddy, Sting’s sentiments about his song remain unchanged. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times (November 11), Sting addressed whether the allegations facing Diddy, including federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, have affected how he feels about the iconic track.
When asked if Diddy’s current legal troubles “tainted” his view of “Every Breath You Take,” Sting’s response was straightforward. “No,” he stated. “I mean, I don’t know what went on with Diddy. But it doesn’t taint the song at all for me. It’s still my song.”
Sting affirmed that the song’s impact and appeal remain strong, regardless of the recent allegations, saying people “still love to hear the song.”
