In an exclusive update on his upcoming album titled “Missionary,” Snoop Dogg shared exciting details during his appearance on All the Smoke with hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.
The iconic rapper is currently immersed in the creative process alongside his longtime collaborator, Dr. Dre, promising a project filled with innovation and depth.
“I’m currently in the studio with Dr. Dre. That’s Death Row/Aftermath. We’re in the final stages of completing it, refining the pieces. He’s a perfectionist,” Snoop Dogg revealed during the interview, emphasizing the dedication they are putting into crafting a remarkable musical experience.
The genesis of the project traces back to a pivotal moment when Dr. Dre personally reached out to Snoop Dogg two years ago. Describing the inception, Snoop Dogg, known as Tha Doggfather, shared, “He called me one day and said, ‘Come over, let me do a couple of songs with you.'”
“I went over, and he was like, ‘Let me produce your album.’ I immediately agreed, and we started working. We knocked out a few songs, but he kept telling me, ‘I need two more days.’ That call came about 85 times. He always needs two more days.”
Despite the meticulous process, Snoop Dogg expressed his admiration for Dr. Dre’s production style and highlighted the transformative effect on his own artistry.
“When you hear what we have and how he got me rapping, it’s like a grown Snoop Dogg. There’s some growth to him. It’s the way he selects his bars, the way he uses his voice. Dre uses me like a robot, and I love it because I love to be produced. I love to be challenged,” he shared enthusiastically.
Snoop Dogg went on to describe the recorded material for the album as “masterful,” acknowledging Dr. Dre’s unique approach to using his voice as an instrument.
This collaboration promises a mature and refined version of Snoop Dogg’s artistry, showcasing the evolution of both artists in the realm of hip-hop.
