In a significant move, Q-Tip, a legendary figure in the world of hip-hop, has joined the creative ensemble behind an eagerly anticipated Broadway musical dedicated to the life and legacy of boxing icon Muhammad Ali.
This exciting project, appropriately named “Ali,” is scheduled to premiere in Kentucky during the fall of 2024, followed by a grand debut on Broadway in 2025. The musical aims to encapsulate the multifaceted facets of Ali’s life and career, making use of Q-Tip’s hip-hop prowess and various talents.
Writer and director Tim Dyer shared insights into this collaboration, emphasizing the broad spectrum of musical elements that will be featured in the show. According to Dyer, “We’ll use Q-Tip’s hip-hop beats and his talents will be used in other areas as well. This show’s covering a lot of areas of music, and we’ll exhaust all of Q-Tip’s knowledge.”
It’s worth noting that Q-Tip will serve as the music producer, co-lyricist, and cast album producer, further underlining his integral role in the musical’s creation.
Richard Willis, the lead producer of the show, added that “Ali” will seamlessly incorporate spoken word, verse, classical music, poetry, rap, and hip-hop, crafting a rich and dynamic theatrical experience for audiences.
