LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy, a rising football talent and NFL hopeful, is now at the center of a legal storm. The Louisiana State Police have issued a warrant for the 24-year-old athlete’s arrest following a tragic car accident on December 17, 2024, that left one person dead and two others injured.
According to a police report cited by Sports Illustrated and WAFB, Lacy faces charges of negligent homicide, reckless vehicle operation, and felony hit-and-run. The collision, which claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall, a former Marine, occurred on Louisiana Highway 20.
Authorities allege Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger when he “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at high speed by crossing the centerline into oncoming traffic in a No-Passing Zone.” This dangerous maneuver reportedly forced a pickup truck driver to swerve and brake, causing a Kia Cadenza to collide head-on with Hall’s Kia Sorrento.
Tragically, Hall succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. The two other victims in the crash sustained injuries but survived.
The police report states that after the collision, Lacy bypassed the crash site and fled south on Highway 20. He did not stop to assist the victims, call for emergency help, or report his involvement to authorities.
Shockingly, just two days after the crash, Lacy announced his decision to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. In a statement shared with fans, he wrote:
“Playing in Death Valley, for the best fans in the country, was an experience I will never forget. Not too many people get to fulfill a dream like this.
I am forever grateful for it. I want to express my appreciation to all my coaches, support staff, and trainers for helping develop me as a football player, but most importantly as a person.”
Lacy’s legal team has confirmed communication with the Louisiana State Police and revealed plans for him to turn himself in. The incident casts a shadow over what was expected to be a promising NFL career.
The tragic loss of Herman Hall and the injuries to others have sparked questions about accountability and justice. While Lacy’s future in professional football hangs in the balance, the grieving family of Herman Hall is left to mourn their loss.
