Russell Simmons, the co-founder of Def Jam, found himself on the receiving end of some good-natured ribbing from his ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons, over his newfound friendship with R&B sensation Usher during their recent retreat in Bali, Indonesia.
The unlikely pair made headlines when they were spotted together at a yoga retreat in Bali, where Russell has been residing since facing accusations of sexual assault in 2017. Their public display of friendship raised eyebrows and sparked discussions across social media platforms.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kimora couldn’t help but share her thoughts on the matter. With a hint of amusement, she wrote, “What is this I’m seeing in the news today? Lol. Y’all some wild boys frfr,” followed by a laughing emoji.
Continuing her light-hearted banter, Kimora added in a subsequent post, “Not ‘by my bed’ lolol,” poking fun at Russell’s Instagram post where he expressed gratitude for Usher’s presence during a difficult time in his life.
Russell had shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram, recounting a moment of vulnerability and the support he received from Usher. He wrote, “When I was at the lowest point in my life I had an operation when I woke up this man was sitting by my bed.”
“I had known Usher since he was a kid but we really bonded because of our mutual love for self discovery and our belief in Yogic science as a direct route to realizing Gods consciousness in ourselves.”
While Russell’s post was intended to showcase the depth of their friendship, it also garnered criticism, particularly towards Usher for associating with Russell amid the allegations surrounding him.
The backlash reflects the broader skepticism towards Russell Simmons within the entertainment industry, as he continues to grapple with accusations of sexual misconduct. Despite this, Russell remains vocal about the support he receives from those closest to him, including Usher.
