In a surprising turn of events, Beyoncé’s groundbreaking country album Cowboy Carter has been completely overlooked at the 2024 CMA Awards. Despite the massive success of both the album and its lead single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” the global superstar received no nominations, leaving fans and industry experts alike stunned.
The snub comes as country singer Morgan Wallen dominated the nominations, leading with seven nods, including Entertainer of the Year and Song of the Year.
Following closely behind were Chris Stapleton and Cody Johnson, who both secured five nominations each. While these artists celebrated their recognition, Beyoncé’s fans took to social media to express their disappointment and outrage.
Many fans even called for Beyoncé to announce a surprise tour during the CMA Awards broadcast to redirect attention and reclaim the spotlight. Others revisited Beyoncé’s controversial history with the CMA Awards, pointing out her infamous 2016 performance with The Chicks, where she was met with boos from some members of the country audience.
The negative experience is said to have inspired her foray into country music, which she confirmed earlier this year, stating that Cowboy Carter was a project born from not feeling “welcomed” during that performance.
Despite the lack of CMA recognition, Beyoncé’s impact on the country music world has been undeniable. Cowboy Carterspent an impressive four weeks atop the Billboard country charts, making her the first Black woman to achieve this feat.
Additionally, she also became the first Black woman to have a No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot Country chart with “Texas Hold ‘Em.”
The CMA Awards may have overlooked her contributions, but Beyoncé’s influence in the genre is impossible to ignore. The question now is, will this snub motivate the megastar to make an even bigger mark on country music?
