In a candid interview, Australian breakdancer Raygun, born Rachael Gunn, has officially announced her retirement from competitive breakdancing following her Olympic performance, which sparked widespread criticism.
The 37-year-old, who doubles as a university lecturer in Sydney, shared her decision on Australia’s Jimmy & Nath Show, where she confirmed that she wouldn’t be returning to the competitive scene.
During the interview, Raygun laughed off any suggestion of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics—where, notably, breakdancing won’t be included in the games.
“No!” she replied, chuckling when asked about a potential comeback. She further clarified her stance, adding, “I still break, but I don’t compete. I’m not going to compete anymore, no.”
Although Raygun initially planned to stay in the game, the intense scrutiny she faced after her Olympic performance has altered her perspective on entering future battles. “The level of scrutiny that would be there makes it really difficult for me to approach another competition,” she admitted.
Despite stepping back from the professional circuit, Raygun hasn’t completely left her passion behind. She still enjoys breaking, just now in the comfort of her own home. “I still dance and I still break, but that’s in my living room with my partner,” she quipped.
