In a remarkable feat, 21 Savage has secured the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart with his latest album, American Dream. This achievement marks his highest first-week sales as a solo artist, solidifying his position in the music industry.
According to Billboard, American Dream debuted at No. 1, amassing an impressive 133,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week. This success makes it 21 Savage’s fourth No. 1 album, narrowly surpassing the first-week sales of his previous solo LP, 2018’s i am > i was, which opened with 131,000 units and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
While 21 Savage has consistently delivered chart-topping solo albums, his most significant sales still stem from notable collaborations. Notably, his track “Her Loss” with Drake garnered a remarkable 404,000 first-week units, and the collaborative effort with Metro Boomin on Savage Mode 2 achieved 171,000 units.
Released on January 12, American Dream features an array of collaborations with artists such as Young Thug, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, Summer Walker, Brent Faiyaz, and more. The album, announced just days before its release, has been met with widespread acclaim.
Adding to the excitement, an accompanying biopic titled “American Dream,” featuring Donald Glover, Caleb McLaughlin, and 21 Savage himself, is scheduled to be released on July 4.
The film provides a captivating narrative of 21 Savage’s journey from his birthplace in London to the U.S., where he relocated with his mother at the age of seven.
This groundbreaking achievement and the anticipation surrounding the biopic further solidify 21 Savage’s status as a dominant force in the music and entertainment industry.
