Trina, the Miami native and legendary rapper, is standing firm amidst the recent controversy surrounding her declaration of Beyoncé as the “No. 1 female rapper.” In an interview with HipHopDX published on December 27, Trina praised Beyoncé for inspiring female rappers to elevate their game.
“In terms of rap, she is the No. 1 female rapper when she does rap,” Trina asserted. “There’s no underestimating the Queen. It’s just one of those things, of course, it’s Queen Beyoncé, but when you hear a song with rap, it’s like, oh my God — it’s more inspiration.”
This statement triggered a lively debate on social media, with numerous fans questioning Trina’s perspective. Undeterred, Trina addressed the backlash on her Instagram Story on December 28, making her stance clear.
“For the dusty crusty funky b*tches in the bacccckkkk. Beyoncé is the queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL other genres of music. Now stay mad goofy’s I said what I said and NAAN b*tch gone check me [middle finger emoji] carry on!”
Despite her initial response, as the story gained traction across various platforms, Trina opted for a more serious tone on her main Instagram feed. Alongside a photo of Beyoncé, she clarified the context of the interview and reiterated her unapologetic support.
“Now that I have y’all undivided attention [double exclamation point emoji] I am actually late to the party bcuz I wasn’t aware of this nonsense happening today bcuz Im too busy minding my business,” she started. “Let me just make myself CLEAR once again, since it’s a slow day for the blogs and bullshit, this interview was back in October at The One Music Festival.. I rlly don’t give a rats ass how anybody feel, I said what I said .. that’s the Queen Bey and I’m gonna STAN [bee emoji] on that.”
Trina concluded, “Beyonce is the Queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL genres of music when it comes to me [double exclamation point emoji] go argue with the IRS or somebody else idc and that’s not up for debate over here. So run along and enjoy the rest of y’all day. (And make sure to clean behind y’all sofas before the New Year).”
