A high-speed crash in Houston has left a mother and four children hospitalized, while the driver… believed to be the father… fled the scene, authorities say.
According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), surveillance footage captured a Ford Expedition racing down Yale Street when a Chevy Avalanche suddenly turned in front of it. The collision caused the SUV to flip into a ditch, ejecting an 8-year-old child from the vehicle. Three other children, reportedly toddlers, were also inside at the time of the crash.
Investigators estimate the SUV was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour before impact. While the occupants of the pickup truck were unharmed, the family in the Expedition suffered devastating injuries. Two passengers remain in serious condition, while three… including young children… are fighting for their lives in critical condition.
Shockingly, police say the man behind the wheel abandoned his loved ones in the wreckage and fled on foot before being picked up by another vehicle. Authorities are now searching for him, questioning why he would leave his family behind in such a dire situation.
“I have no idea what’s going through his mind,” Capt. Ryan Watson told KTRK. “Our investigators are working to track him down and get some answers.”
Law enforcement urges anyone with information to come forward as the search for the missing driver continues.
