A New Year’s Day ride turned deadly after a teenage suspect allegedly orchestrated a violent ambush on an Uber driver in Georgia.
Police identified the victim as Cesar Tejada, 58, a father of two from Grayson, Georgia. Authorities say Tejada was called to a residential location, where the suspect was riding in the back seat of the vehicle.
Investigators allege that Christian Simmons, 15, exited the car, opened fire, and left Tejada wounded in the roadway before fleeing the scene. Responding officers found the driver suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the location.
Police later detained Simmons near his home. Prosecutors have confirmed he is being charged as an adult with murder, a decision that has intensified public debate over juvenile crime and violent offenses involving rideshare drivers.
The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a husband, father, and hardworking driver whose life was cut short at the start of the new year.
