During an eye-opening interview on The Breakfast Club, Atlanta rappers T.I. and Young Dro recounted a frightening moment when T.I.’s son, Domani, saved Dro’s life during a near-fatal drug overdose.
The October 14 conversation shed light on how close the “Shoulder Lean” rapper came to death and how Domani’s quick thinking made all the difference.
Young Dro, reflecting on the experience, began with a sobering revelation: “Man, I’m living on borrowed time. I’m not even supposed to be here doing this interview.”
T.I., visibly emotional, added more context: “I saw Dro in a lifeless state. I wasn’t there in person, but my son, Domani, was the one who walked in and found him. He FaceTimed me, saying, ‘What’s up with Dro? I’m trying to wake him up, but he won’t respond.’” The father of seven recalled yelling into the phone, trying to rouse Dro: “I was shouting, ‘Dro! Dro! Wake up, man!’”
Dro, able to laugh about the ordeal now, chimed in: “What actually woke me up was how annoying T.I. was! I heard him asking, ‘What’s wrong?’ and all I could think was, ‘I don’t know!’”
But the situation was far from humorous at the time. T.I. explained how his son took charge of the moment. “It was like Dro was trying to talk but couldn’t. I told Domani to call an ambulance immediately.”
Domani, who had been administering CPR during the crisis, showed maturity beyond his years, and Dro even joked about the intensity of the moment: “Domani was going so hard with the CPR, I thought he was going to break my chest!”
This emotional recounting highlights not only the dangers of addiction but also the importance of having people around who can act quickly in life-threatening situations. Thanks to Domani’s heroic efforts, Young Dro is still here, and both rappers have a renewed appreciation for life.
