Meet Jeanie Shaffer, the knitting volunteer Queen. Jeanie has knitted over 11,000 hats for newborn babies delivered at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, Maryland. Her love for knitting has led her to volunteer her incredible talent to helping adorable newborns at the hospital stay warm and cozy.
Jeanie has been volunteering hours of her time to the hospital for over 15 years. When newborns are born, the knitted hats are placed on their heads to help stabilize their body temperature. Knowing that she helps give a special gift to newborns the moment they’re born has given her a purpose for her incredible talent.
As a special thank you, the UPMC Western Maryland hospital wanted to show their thank you to Jeanie for her volunteer service. By having thousands of hospital patients send in photos of their newborn wearing her knitted hats. The hospital plans on making a scrapbook photo album to give to Jeanie as a special thank you for having such a caring heart and spirit.
Jeanie, from us to you, we love you and thank you for everything you are doing for the little ones.
