Snoop Dogg, the Los Angeles Lakers enthusiast, has shared his thoughts on LeBron James’ position in the pantheon of all-time great Lakers players. While Snoop has previously praised LeBron, he has now raised doubts about his status as a top 5 Lakers player.
During a recent appearance on The PivotPodcast, Snoop revealed his personal list of the top 5 Lakers of all time. Surprisingly, LeBron James did not make the cut. Instead, Snoop’s list included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (formerly known as Lou Alcindor), Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Snoop excluded LeBron and Anthony Davis as potential candidates for the fifth spot, stating that they haven’t accomplished enough as Lakers. He went on to mention other Laker legends like Jerry West, Michael Cooper, and James Worthy before ultimately settling on Wilt Chamberlain. Snoop highlighted Chamberlain’s remarkable scoring record, citing his average of 50 points per game.
According to Snoop, LeBron James still has work to do in a Lakers jersey to earn a place in his top 5. He hopes that LeBron will lead the Lakers to another championship next season, especially after their disappointing sweep by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals this year. However, there have been reports suggesting that LeBron may contemplate retirement at the age of 38, heading into his 21st season. It’s worth noting that LeBron is still under contract with the Lakers for the upcoming season, set to earn $53 million in what would be his sixth year in Los Angeles.
While Snoop Dogg has previously expressed frustration towards certain Lakers players, such as Anthony Davis and Troy Brown Jr., he seems to have made peace with the team’s overall performance this season. Despite a challenging start with a 2-10 record, the Lakers managed to reach the Western Conference Finals, which appears to have satisfied the Long Beach rap legend.
