Redman and Boosie Badazz recently provided their perspectives on the ongoing feud between Pusha T and Jim Jones, which has involved the exchange of diss tracks. HipHopDX Interviewed Redman, Boosie Badazz, and Erick Sermon at the 2023 BET Awards. While the trio remains uncertain about who would come out on top in a battle between Jim and Pusha, they all acknowledge the immense talent possessed by both artists.
During the interview, Erick Sermon expressed his surprise at Jim’s diss record, stating, “I was shocked though too because again, Jim came up late. As far as the lyrics and him spitting the rhyme, it was dope. But Pusha T is a real lyricist, for real.”
Redman chimed in, saying, “I heard some of Pusha T’s joint, but I ain’t hear Jim yet – but I know when Jim puts his mind to it, he goes in,”
Boosie, on the other hand, admitted, “I don’t know who would win. That battle would definitely be a good one.”
The clash between Pusha T and Jim Jones originated when Pusha T seemingly targeted Jim in an unreleased Clipse song unveiled during Pharrell’s debut Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week. Although he didn’t mention Jim by name, Pusha T accused his rival of “chasing a feature out of your element,” possibly referring to Jim’s association with Drake, his bitter rival. Pusha T dropped additional hints through references to repossession, reality TV, and alleged counterfeit jewelry. In response, Jim dismissed Pusha T’s bars as “not a Top 50 verse” and retaliated with his track “Summer Collection,” which borrowed Pusha T’s beat.
The initial spark for this conflict occurred months ago when Jim Jones made derogatory remarks about Pusha T’s placement at No. 29 on Billboard’s Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All-time list. According to Jim, the Grammy-nominated lyricist does not deserve such recognition.
During an appearance on the Rap Caviar Podcast in April, Jim Jones questioned Pusha T’s qualifications, asking, “What has he done that puts him in the greatest rappers of all time besides talk about coke that he probably didn’t get himself?”
