In a recent turn of events, Nicki Minaj has declined Kanye West’s request to include their collaborative track, “New Body,” on his upcoming project alongside Ty Dolla $ign. The song, originally recorded in 2018 for Kanye’s unreleased Yandhi album, has become a point of contention between the two rap icons.
On December 14, Kanye West, also known as Ye, took to X (previously Twitter) to share a screenshot of a text message he sent to Nicki seeking permission to use the track. In his post, he wrote, “Hi it’s ye, may I call you about clearing new body on the new album,” and tagged the Pink Friday 2 rapper.
Responding swiftly, Nicki Minaj addressed the matter on Instagram Live, rejecting Kanye’s request while emphasizing the song’s age. “Now, regarding Kanye, that train has left the station, okay?” she stated. “No disrespect in any way. I just put out a brand-new album. Why would I put out a song that’s been out for three years? Come on, guys.”
This development adds an interesting twist to the ongoing dynamics between the two artists and raises questions about the selection process for Kanye’s collaborative projects.
