Reports indicate that NBA superstar Ja Morant was seen holding a gun in a live Instagram video on his own feed while shirtless in a club in the early hours of Saturday morning. The live stream reportedly had over 1,000 viewers.
This incident occurred shortly after a report from the Washington Post claimed that Morant was sued for punching a 17-year-old boy and flashing a gun at him during a basketball game hosted at his family home in July 2022. The boy, who regarded Morant as a mentor, accidentally hit Morant on the chin with the ball, after which Morant allegedly hit him multiple times.
The boy claimed that in addition to being hit by Morant, one of Morant’s friends also hit him four or five times and that the force of the punches felt like a mixed martial arts fight. The police report, as seen by the Washington Post, stated that as the teen tried to leave, Morant “came outside with his gun” concealed in his pants. Although Morant did not draw the weapon, the boy alleged that Morant put his hand on it before his father intervened by shouting at him to go back inside the house.
According to the Washington Post, police interviewed Morant in September, approximately two weeks after the teenager’s statement regarding the incident. Morant claimed to the police that the 17-year-old was the instigator in the altercation, stating that he had to defend himself.
He also reported that the first strike made was when the ball hit him. Morant filed a police report about the boy on August 8, nearly two weeks after the incident, claiming that the teenager threatened to return and cause harm. The report indicated that the teen allegedly said he would “come back and light this place up like fireworks.”
