Houston rap legend Mike Jones, known for turning his phone number into a cultural phenomenon in the early 2000s, is now under scrutiny for allegedly fabricating a text to flaunt his $100,000 performance fee.
Fans are calling out the rapper on social media, questioning the authenticity of the now-viral post.
On January 4, Mike Jones shared a screenshot on Instagram featuring a supposed text message that read: “Is 100,000$ enough to get you to perform for my son’s barmizfa?”
Jones appeared to respond with enthusiasm, saying: “What’s the date of the event and we can make that happen for the $100,000.”
In the caption, the rapper celebrated his infamous hotline, 281-330-8004, claiming it continues to bring lucrative opportunities. He wrote:
“The Power of this 281-330-8004. See, some of y’all might’ve thought it was a gimmick, but my supporters know why I gave out the number! It’s to avoid janky promoters and stay hands-on with my fans.
Now in 2025, we’re getting hit up for bar mitzvahs! Even if there are only five or 50 people, that’s a paid vacation for me!”
While Jones seemed confident in his post, fans quickly began to poke holes in the story. One commenter pointed out the glaring misspelling of “bar mitzvah,” while another questioned the logistics of the text exchange:
“How is this your number, but they’re texting you?”
The skepticism didn’t stop there. A concerned fan urged Jones to delete the post, writing:
“Big dawg, your number is at the top of the screenshot. This feels off. Don’t tarnish your reputation for clout.”
Another fan shared a more critical perspective:
“When you post things like this, it feels like you’re creating a false perception to overcharge others. If you’re really making money, why share this? Don’t risk your legendary status.”
The most damning observation came from those who noticed Jones had misspelled “bar mitzvah” the exact same way in both the text and his caption, further fueling suspicions that he had sent the message to himself.
Despite the backlash, Mike Jones appears unbothered by the skepticism. In a follow-up post, he shared another performance inquiry for February 7, doubling down on his stance:
“Y’all love to troll about the shows that are light, but let me tell you, the price doesn’t CHANGE… whether it’s one person or 8,000! In fact, it’s going up! While you’re laughing at the smaller events, I’m still getting paid. Every private show you post only reminds me I’m still cashing checks in 2025!”
