Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake‘s recent encounter at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) raised some eyebrows, but the situation may not have been as heated as it initially appeared.
The two artists were both in attendance at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on the night of September 12, where onlookers observed what seemed like a disagreement backstage.
During the incident, Megan Thee Stallion was having her hair attended to when Justin Timberlake approached her. The moment captured by cameras showed Timberlake leaning in to speak with a smile, only to be met by Megan wagging her finger and appearing displeased after their conversation.

However, a source from backstage who witnessed the exchange provided a different perspective to Variety, revealing that there was no actual conflict involved.
According to the backstage source, Timberlake’s words were friendly and welcoming. “He said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you,’ and she responded with, ‘No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper,'” the source disclosed. The source went on to describe the interaction as “very cute.”
Another eyewitness corroborated the friendly nature of the encounter, stating, “Meg loves Justin. She was saying, ‘No, no, no, we’ve never met before.’ It was their first time meeting, and she was excited.”
