In recent developments, Meek Mill found himself at odds with a longtime engineer, Anthony Cruz, over comments Cruz made regarding his past decisions on project priorities.
Cruz, known for his work with Meek, J. Cole, and DJ Khaled, expressed regret for not seizing an opportunity to work with JAY-Z and Beyoncé over Meek Mill’s Championships album.
During an appearance on the TmrO Network, Cruz revealed that he had declined an offer from Young Guru to work on JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s collaborative album, Everything Is Love, opting instead to focus on the early stages of Meek Mill’s Championships project.
Reflecting on his decision, Cruz admitted feeling remorseful for passing on the chance to work with the iconic power couple in Paris.
However, Meek Mill didn’t take Cruz’s comments lightly. Expressing his disappointment and feeling slighted by what he perceived as disloyalty, Meek took to X to address the issue.
Despite acknowledging his affection for Cruz, Meek criticized the engineer’s statement as “bad advice,” emphasizing the success of Championships, which has attained triple platinum status.
Meek Mill’s frustration stemmed from his perception of Cruz’s lack of loyalty, especially considering their decade-long relationship and the opportunities Meek provided him early in his career.
The rapper expressed incredulity at Cruz’s suggestion that he would have abandoned their project for the chance to work with JAY-Z and Beyoncé.
Highlighting the investment he made in Cruz’s development as an engineer, Meek expressed disappointment in hearing Cruz prioritize external opportunities over their collaborative efforts.
Meek further criticized what he perceived as a mindset of prioritizing proximity to big names in the industry over genuine collaboration and loyalty.
In a moment of resolve, Meek hinted at severing ties with Cruz, expressing his reluctance to continue working with individuals who he felt were leveraging his success to advance their own careers.
