Ma$e recently shed light on a long-standing mystery surrounding his decision to introduce Cam’ron to The Notorious B.I.G. for his first record deal in the mid-90s rather than taking him to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records, where Ma$e was already signed at the time. This revelation occurred during a heartfelt conversation between the two artists on the latest episode of “It Is What It Is” on Thursday, September 28th.
Cam’ron, curious about Ma$e’s choice from years ago, asked, “When you had your record deal, why did you take me to Biggie Smalls and not Bad Boy?” Ma$e, after taking a moment to gather his thoughts and emotions, replied, “It’s almost gonna bring me to tears to say this. Being that I saw you as such a good friend, I wanted to put you with somebody I knew would do right by you.”
Cam’ron, deeply moved by Ma$e’s loyalty even after 25 years, expressed his gratitude: “Thank you, man, I really appreciate that. I don’t want to get emotional in here.”
Ma$e elaborated further, explaining his rationale: “I knew Biggie would do right by you. I thought he would do the right thing.” The conversation briefly paused as Cam’ron struggled to hold back tears, saying, “I don’t got time to start crying in here, Murda.”
