Philadelphia’s own Lil Uzi Vert continues to pay homage to one of his greatest musical influences, Young Thug, as he gives fans a sneak peek into his upcoming project, ‘Barter 16.’
In a recent social media post, Uzi shared an image of himself in the studio, enveloped in a captivating red hue, channeling a youthful version of Thugga. The rapper confidently threw up a gang sign while sporting a red bandana elegantly wrapped around his dreadlocks and flaunted a Rich Gang chain, a tribute to Thug’s former group with Rich Homie Quan and Birdman.
Despite releasing the highly anticipated ‘Pink Tape’ album just last month, Lil Uzi Vert already has two new projects in the works, ‘Barter 16’ being one of them, while the other is the third installment of his beloved ‘Luv Is Rage’ series.
Earlier this month, Uzi debuted a Young Thug-inspired look, donning a white suit that closely resembled an outfit previously worn by the YSL boss, complemented by a red bandana reminiscent of Thug’s iconic ‘Barter 6’ cover.
The title ‘Barter 16’ pays homage to Thug’s 2015 mixtape, which, in itself, sparked some controversy as a nod to Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter’ series.
Lil Uzi Vert revealed his plans for ‘Barter 16’ shortly after ‘Pink Tape’ topped the charts and claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 earlier this month, amassing an impressive 167,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
Reflecting on his achievement, Uzi shared on his Instagram Stories, “Sitting here thinking about how I went #1 on an experimental tape. My apologies, ‘Barter 16’ mixtape on the way.”
In addition to the announcement, Lil Uzi Vert extended a heartfelt message to Young Thug, who is currently facing legal issues and remains behind bars awaiting trial in the YSL RICO case, by writing, “Free Slime.”
