Drake’s status in the hip-hop realm came under scrutiny recently when he voiced his frustration about helicopters hovering over his residence, prompting Glasses Malone, an L.A. rapper, to challenge Drake’s hip-hop authenticity.
The Canadian rapper, often referred to as the “6 God,” took to social media to call out local Toronto news station CP24 for their frequent helicopter flights over his lavish estate, known as “The Embassy,” situated in the Bridle Path neighborhood.
Drake expressed his annoyance, stating that the noise disrupted his sleep, suggesting alternative flight times to alleviate the disturbance.
Drake’s mansion has been a subject of public interest due to various security incidents, including trespassing incidents and a drive-by shooting that resulted in a security guard’s serious injury.
Glasses Malone, upon learning of Drake’s complaint, seized the opportunity to voice his opinion on the matter, implying that enduring helicopter noise is a rite of passage in the hip-hop community.
In response to a post on X discussing Drake’s grievance, Malone remarked, “reasons you’re not hip hop #102 u know how many nights we had to sleep with helicopters flying over the crib ??” This comment echoed sentiments from the West Coast, suggesting that Drake’s discomfort with the noise undermined his credibility as a hip-hop artist.
The exchange between Drake and Glasses Malone highlights differing perspectives within the hip-hop community regarding authenticity and the challenges associated with fame and privacy.
