Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been released from prison after serving time related to a 2022 shooting incident involving a man accused of abusing his young son.
Authorities said the situation unfolded after Velasquez learned allegations that Harry Goularte Jr. had molested his 4-year-old child at a daycare facility. According to prosecutors, Velasquez pursued Goularte during an approximately 11-mile high-speed chase through California.
Investigators reported that Velasquez intentionally rammed the vehicle before firing multiple gunshots. Goularte was not struck, but one of the bullets hit Goularte’s stepfather during the incident.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said the shooting occurred near a busy intersection in Morgan Hill while the victims attempted to escape. Prosecutors initially sought a sentence of 30 years to life, but Velasquez ultimately received a five-year sentence.
The case drew national attention, sparking debate over vigilantism, parental protection, and justice.
