Drew Gordon, a former NBA player and brother of Denver Nuggets star Aaron Gordon, tragically passed away in a car accident in Portland on Thursday. He was 33 years old.
Gordon’s journey in sports began in California, where he distinguished himself as a standout athlete. He earned All-American honors at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose.
His college career included impressive stints at both UCLA and the University of New Mexico, where he played for two seasons each. Gordon then moved on to play professionally in Europe before making his NBA debut with the Philadelphia 76ers in November 2014.
During his brief NBA tenure, he made nine appearances for the Sixers. Gordon continued his basketball career in the G League and various international leagues until he retired from the sport last year.
Aaron Gordon, 28, has not yet publicly commented on his brother’s passing. However, the Denver Nuggets expressed their deep sorrow in a statement released on Thursday.
“The Denver Nuggets organization is devastated to learn about the tragic passing of Drew Gordon,” the team said. Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones. Our hearts are with Aaron and the Gordon family during this extremely difficult time.”
Drew Gordon is survived by his wife and three children.
