Hip-hop icon Fat Joe is grappling with a heartbreaking loss… his cherished mother, Marie Del-Carmen Cartagena, has passed away at the age of 77.
The Bronx-born rapper took to social media on Saturday to share an emotional tribute to the woman he affectionately called his world. Alongside a series of touching family photos, Joe poured out his grief and gratitude in a heartfelt message.
“She didn’t have much, but she gave us everything,” he wrote, reflecting on the sacrifices his mother made and her unwavering love for her family. Joe described her as a symbol of strength, recalling how she chose to remain in their longtime Bronx housing project even after his rise to fame… simply because she loved her community so deeply.
In a gut-wrenching revelation, Fat Joe said his mother died of a “broken heart,” just months after the passing of her husband, Ernesto, who died in February. “My Dad wanted her with him. I tried everything humanly possible,” Joe shared.
The rapper ended his tribute with a solemn vow that moved fans across the world: “Mommy, till I see you again.”
