Rapper Fat Joe has strongly condemned Akademiks for instigating a feud between Lil Durk and Gunna through a controversial question.
Recently, Lil Durk appeared on Akademiks’ Off the Record podcast, engaging in a comprehensive interview that delved into various aspects of his eventful career and significant issues dominating the hip-hop industry.
During an Instagram Live session on Tuesday (May 23), Joey Crack called out Akademiks, accusing him of resorting to the “oldest journalist trick in the book.” He criticized the podcaster for posing a question to Lil Durk about Gunna’s alleged involvement in snitching, implying that the Atlanta rapper had betrayed Young Thug by accepting a plea deal in the YSL RICO case. This maneuver essentially created a divisive situation, pitting the two artists against each other.
Lil Durk, known for his strong stance against individuals who cooperate with law enforcement, openly expressed his disgust for “rats.” He directed his message to Gunna, stating that Gunna should have remained silent in such circumstances. Lil Durk firmly stated, “If you are a rat, I despise you. Because I have love for Thug.”
Fat Joe stepped in, highlighting the manipulative nature of Akademiks’ question. He stated, “By asking Durk about Gunna, he fell into the oldest trap in hip-hop journalism. Now Durk comes out saying, ‘No, I don’t.’ As a result, these two individuals develop an ongoing dislike for each other.”
Continuing his critique, Fat Joe likened this situation to the historical East Coast-West Coast beef and controversies perpetuated by publications such as VIBE magazine and The Source. He emphasized the importance of focusing on positivity and maintaining a harmonious environment within the hip-hop community, stating, “Here, we strive for unity and embrace positive narratives surrounding everyone.”
