The global soccer community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Aaron Boupendza, a talented 28-year-old striker who tragically passed away in China after reportedly falling from the 11th floor of a building. The news was confirmed on Wednesday by the Gabonese Football Federation in a somber statement.
Boupendza, who most recently suited up for Zhejiang FC in the Chinese Super League, died at his residence. While the exact details surrounding the fall have not been made public, authorities are actively investigating the incident. “The club is fully cooperating with relevant departments to conduct a thorough investigation,” Zhejiang FC stated.
FC Cincinnati, the MLS club Boupendza played for from 2023 to 2024, released an emotional tribute honoring the late forward’s memory. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Aaron Boupendza earlier today in China. He was a cherished part of the FC Cincinnati family, and our thoughts are with his loved ones during this painful time. Rest in peace, Aaron.”
Before making his mark in the U.S., Boupendza’s career journey included stints in France’s lower divisions and a breakout season in Turkey’s Süper Lig. During the 2020/21 campaign with Hatayspor, he electrified fans by netting 22 goals in just 36 appearances, earning him the league’s top scorer title.
Hatayspor also paid tribute on social media, posting, “We are devastated to learn of Aaron Boupendza’s passing. He brought glory to our club and joy to fans across Turkey. Our condolences go out to his family, Zhejiang FC, and everyone touched by his brilliance. Rest easy, King.”
Boupendza had recently signed a new two-year deal with a Romanian club before his untimely death. Known for his explosive speed and clinical finishing, he left a lasting impression on every team he played for.
His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the football world, with fans, teammates, and clubs paying tribute to a rising star gone far too soon.
