In a recent interview with Stephen A. Smith, Hip Hop legend Dr. Dre dropped an unexpected revelation—he’s never listened to his iconic albums The Chronic or Doggystyle from start to finish.
This surprising admission came during a candid conversation on The Stephen A. Smith Show, where Dre and Snoop Dogg were special guests on the October 18 episode.
When Smith asked Dre if he ever reflects on his monumental accomplishments, the legendary producer didn’t hesitate to respond. “I don’t look back,” Dre said. “I never listen to my old music or anything like that.”
Dre even emphasized that this wasn’t an exaggeration. “I’ve never listened to my old music. I never let anybody play it around me,” he added, before delivering a striking analogy: “I feel like that’s masturbation at the highest level.”
Unfazed by the comment, Dre continued to explain his forward-thinking mindset. “I’m always thinking forward. I don’t live my life with a rear-view mirror. I don’t care about what I did or what’s in the past,” Dre stated.
He hinted, though, that there may come a day when he’ll revisit his work, saying, “Maybe at some point, I’ll sit down with my grandkids and listen to some of the things I’ve done.”
Snoop backed up Dre’s claim, confirming that the producer has never sat down and listened to his classic albums in their entirety. “This dude ain’t never listened to The Chronic from top to bottom. He ain’t never listened to Doggystyle from top to bottom. Me and him together have never listened to them.”
For fans of Dre and Snoop, this revelation adds a new layer to the Hip Hop pioneers’ legendary status—proving that for Dr. Dre, the focus is always on what’s next, not what’s behind.
