Dr. Dre has sparked massive anticipation for his upcoming collaborative album with Snoop Dogg, titled Missionary, by declaring it “some of the best music” he’s ever produced.
In a revealing interview with Entertainment Tonight, the legendary producer opened up about the much-awaited project, expressing confidence that Missionary will stand out as another gem in his illustrious career.
Reflecting on the creative process, Dre compared working on Missionary to producing Snoop’s iconic 1993 debut, Doggystyle. “Back then, we were just kids,” Dre said. “Snoop was only 18 or 19, and I’m six years older, so we were just having fun.
This time around, there’s a different level of maturity in both Snoop’s lyrics and my music. I truly believe this is some of the best work I’ve ever done… I’m not playing.”
Dre also shared that both he and Snoop are close to finishing the album, with plans for a November release—perfectly timed to coincide with the 31st anniversary of Doggystyle on November 23.
“We’re almost there. I’m currently mixing the album, and while I wanted 14 tracks, Snoop is pushing for 16. I’m on the 11th mix right now, and we need to have it ready by September 1st for the November release,” Dre revealed.
In a tantalizing tease, Dre mentioned a high-profile collaboration on the album, hinting at a star-studded lineup. “I’ve actually done a couple of songs vocally, though I’m not sure if they’ll make the final cut.
But there’s one track featuring Sting that’s absolutely incredible. The roster of artists on this album is just amazing,” he shared, adding with a laugh, “I probably shouldn’t have said that.”
With Dre’s legendary production skills and Snoop’s lyrical prowess, Missionary is shaping up to be an album for the ages. Fans of the iconic duo have every reason to be excited as they await what could be another groundbreaking chapter in hip-hop history.
