Sean “Diddy” Combs has voluntarily returned a prestigious honor, New York City’s Key to the City, after a request from Mayor Eric Adams.
The request was made in light of the recent controversy surrounding a video involving Cassie that surfaced, depicting an alleged assault.
TMZ acquired two letters sent by Mayor Adams to Combs Entertainment LLC’s offices in New York and Los Angeles. In the letters, Mayor Adams expressed his “deep disturbance” regarding the video involving Cassie.
He emphasized his commitment to supporting survivors of domestic abuse and highlighted that the Key to the City is intended for individuals who exemplify model citizenship—a criterion that the selection committee believes Diddy no longer satisfies.
Mayor Adams publicly announced that the committee would convene to address this matter. Following their discussion, the committee recommended rescinding Diddy’s key. They provided a specific address for the return of the key.
According to sources with direct knowledge, the letters were dispatched on June 4, and Diddy complied by returning the key on June 10.
