R&B icon D’Angelo is currently working on fresh material for a new album, according to his longtime collaborator and friend Raphael Saadiq. The exciting news was shared during Saadiq’s appearance on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, where he spoke about the legendary musician’s return to the studio.
“D’s in a good space,” Saadiq revealed, highlighting D’Angelo’s enthusiasm for the project. “He’s excited. He’s like, ‘You gotta play bass. I’ve got this track. I’m telling you, you got to get on it. It’s got your name all over it.’”
Saadiq, who has been collaborating with D’Angelo for nearly 30 years, further teased that the singer is currently working on six new songs. One of these tracks, Saadiq disclosed, is from the vault of Lynwood Rose, a supergroup that included D’Angelo, Saadiq, and Q-Tip.
“I think it’s going to be on D’Angelo’s new album when it drops,” Saadiq said, speaking about their work as Lynwood Rose. “I’m playing bass, D’s playing, and we’re both singing backgrounds. It’s funky as hell—D is still a bad boy.”
The music has stood the test of time, according to Saadiq. “Good music ages well,” he added, expressing his excitement for fans to hear what D’Angelo has been working on.
With such promising updates, the anticipation for D’Angelo’s upcoming release is only growing. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project!
