Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was tragically shot and killed on Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University. He was just 31 years old.
Authorities confirmed that the shooter remains at large, sparking an intense statewide manhunt. Two individuals who were initially detained have since been released after investigators determined they were not connected to the attack.
President Donald Trump expressed his condolences on Truth Social, calling Kirk “The Great, and even Legendary” figure who inspired America’s youth. Trump added, “Charlie was loved and admired by ALL, especially me. Melania and I send our deepest sympathies to his wife Erika and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk was participating in his organization’s “American Comeback Tour” when the shooting occurred shortly after noon. Witnesses say he was engaging with students at his signature “Prove Me Wrong” debate when a single shot rang out, striking him on stage. Law enforcement sources confirmed only one round was fired.
Video footage captured the shocking moment, showing the crowd’s horror as the debate turned deadly.
As of Wednesday evening, police are still actively searching for the suspect. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
