Bob Lee, a prominent tech executive who created the widely-used mobile payment service Cash App, was tragically stabbed to death in San Francisco, California on Tuesday morning. The 43-year-old tech mogul, who previously served as the chief technology officer of Square, was attacked in the city’s downtown Rincon Hill neighborhood at 2:35 a.m., according to reports from the San Francisco Police Department. Sadly, despite being taken to a nearby hospital, Lee eventually succumbed to his injuries.
No suspect details have been released by the authorities at this time, and no arrests have been made as of early Wednesday. The incident has shocked and saddened Lee’s colleagues, with MobileCoin’s CEO Joshua Goldbard among those paying tribute to the “force of nature” that Lee was. Lee had been serving as the chief product officer of San Francisco-based cryptocurrency company MobileCoin since November 2021, according to his LinkedIn page.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Lee’s loved ones and the entire tech community in the wake of this tragic loss. We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and provide updates as necessary.
