Cardi B recently addressed Joe Budden’s critical comments about her latest single, “Bongos,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion. The Grammy-winning rapper expressed her belief that Joe’s remarks were driven by personal feelings rather than objective criticism. During an Instagram Live session on September 13, Cardi shared her perspective on the matter.
In her candid response, Cardi conveyed her sense that Joe Budden might harbor some underlying issues with her beyond merely critiquing the song. She suggested that his criticism was part of a broader pattern where he responds defensively when people make negative comments about him.
Cardi cited previous instances where Joe had engaged with individuals who had said disparaging things about him, highlighting his desire for understanding and support from others.
Joe Budden, in turn, reacted to Cardi B’s response during the latest episode of his self-titled podcast. The former Slaughterhouse MC acknowledged his positive comments about Cardi in the past and questioned why Cardi had chosen to react to the one instance where he offered a negative perspective on her work.
He emphasized that his intention was never to crush anyone’s dreams but stood by his critique of the song. Joe pointed out that he had expressed his views in a respectful manner. He asserted that he didn’t appreciate Cardi reacting strongly to his critique, especially considering the many times he had praised her.
Earlier this week, Joe Budden had criticized “Bongos,” describing it as a collaboration between two artists that failed to create a cohesive song. He had characterized the record as “contrived” and likened it to a “science project” concocted by artificial intelligence. Joe expressed his dislike for the song, comparing it unfavorably to Cardi B’s previous work and collaborations.
