Celebrating nearly a decade of freedom, Boosie Badazz recently marked a significant milestone in his career with a captivating performance at the “A GRAMMY Salute To 50 Years Of Hip-Hop” TV special.
The Baton Rouge-native rapper, who was released from Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola on March 5, 2014, had been absent from televised industry ceremonies for the past ten years, making this return particularly special.
The two-hour-long “A GRAMMY Salute To 50 Years Of Hip-Hop” event, broadcasted by CBS Television Network on December 10, showcased an array of star-studded performances, including Boosie Badazz.
Expressing his gratitude on Twitter, the artist shared his appreciation for the opportunity, stating, “THANKS TO THE GRAMMYS FOR FINALLY GIVING ME A CHANCE TO PERFORM AT AWARDS SHOW SINCE I BEEN HOME FROM PRISON!! #imgrateful.”

Held at Inglewood’s YouTube Theater on November 8, the celebration featured a diverse lineup of artists representing various Hip-Hop generations. Alongside Boosie Badazz, the broadcast included performances by Black Thought, Big Daddy Kane, Bun B, Chance The Rapper, Coi Leray, Common, De La Soul, GloRilla, Gunna, Latto, LL Cool J, MC Lyte, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rakim, Rick Ross, Roddy Ricch, T.I., and many others. Notably, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, the first Hip-Hop act to win a Grammy Award, also graced the stage.
Although Boosie Badazz has yet to receive a golden gramophone trophy from the Recording Academy, he expressed appreciation for the organization’s recognition of hip-hop culture’s 50th anniversary.
In a video posted on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel, Boosie acknowledged, “The Grammys gave me a chance that a lot of people don’t give me, so I’m thankful for the Grammys. Mixing the Grammys with Hip-Hop, that’s like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.”
