Birdman, the co-founder of Cash Money, believes that on the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, people should acknowledge the contributions of CEOs to the culture. He expressed this view in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
At the recent Grammy Awards, there was a 15-minute tribute at the Crypto.com Arena in LA featuring performances from pioneers such as LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliot, Run DMC, and newer MCs like GloRilla, Lil Baby, and Lil Uzi Vert.
Birdman took to Instagram on Tuesday to express his belief that executives should receive recognition this year.
“Im confused about 50yrs of hip hop where they salute legendary artists which is well respeked [sic],” the 54-year-old mogul wrote, elaborating on how label heads pushed hip-hop into the forefront of music and should be honored just as much as artists. “Also I think CEOs who kept these artists alive to be great [and] showed them how to keep hip hop alive should be saluted in a major way. I remember wen they said hip hop was dead and we kept it alive YMCMB 20plus summers respek our hussle CEOs kept hip hop alive frfr.”
According to Complex, Pierre “P” Thomas, the CEO of Quality Control, recently sold his label to HYBE America for $300 million. He supported Birdman’s statement and commented, “This needs to be discussed in a significant way. Let’s go.”
Snoop Dogg, a West Coast rap legend, also agreed with Birdman and commented, “Facts” and “Great work, cuz u and Slim did that.”
Birdman replied to Snoop saying, “f** with you dog 4life and real gangsta sh**.”
