Chicago Sky star Angel Reese made headlines once again, but this time, it wasn’t for her basketball skills. The 22-year-old WNBA player, known for her dominance on the court, recently attended the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York City, where she caught up with her former teammate Kysre Gondrezick.
Gondrezick, who is dating Boston Celtics champion Jaylen Brown, spent time with Reese before she was cut from the Chicago Sky roster earlier in the 2024 WNBA season.
Despite her athletic accomplishments, Reese revealed a surprising truth during an Instagram Live after the event. While her WNBA career helped her rise to fame, the salary from the league isn’t what keeps her financially secure.
Reese admitted, “Hating pays my bills, baby. The WNBA doesn’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think it pays one of them.”
Reese’s WNBA salary for the 2024 season stood at $73,439, which she humorously compared to her high living costs. “I’m living beyond my means!” she joked. “My rent alone is $8,000. If I relied solely on my WNBA salary, I wouldn’t even be able to eat a sandwich or afford to live.”
While her basketball paycheck might not cover her lavish lifestyle, Reese’s financial success comes from a different source. With a growing list of endorsements and collaborations with major brands, Reese has built a thriving career beyond the court.
Her partnerships with globally recognized companies have secured her wealth, making her one of the top earners in women’s sports.
Reese’s transparency sheds light on a broader issue facing many WNBA players, whose salaries often pale in comparison to their NBA counterparts. However, Reese’s savvy business moves and entrepreneurial spirit have positioned her as both a basketball star and a powerful influencer, allowing her to enjoy financial freedom despite the challenges within the league.
