On Freddie Gibbs’ 41st birthday, Akademiks reignited the “Spreddie Gibbs” feud, putting a damper on the celebrations. The well-known media personality took to social media on Wednesday (June 14) to remind Gangsta Gibbs and the public about the unflattering nickname, promoting a graphic T-shirt featuring a blurred image of the Indiana rapper seemingly exposing his buttocks to the camera.
“Happy 41st Birthday to my former Opp, Freddie Gibbs… I was unaware they had a shirt depicting you revealing yourself to your ex before you were humiliated,” wrote Akademiks.
“Go grab a Spreadie Gibbs T-shirt… help support his child… his music alone won’t do it,” he added, sharing a link to a website selling the explicit tees for $30 each.
Fans were left astounded that an alleged image of Gibbs’ posterior could be transformed into a purchasable garment.
“If someone actually buys and wears this, the world has gone mad,” replied one Twitter user, while another exclaimed, “Oh no, I can’t unsee this!” The term “Spreddie Gibbs” gained traction in May when Freddie’s ex-girlfriend, Destini, revealed some of his alleged sexual preferences and accused him of ghosting her after she became pregnant.
“Blocking me on Twitter while I have a picture of you exposing yourself in my phone is insane… I’ll spare them that one though,” she taunted in a series of tweets.
Freddie Gibbs Mocks DJ Akademiks’ Claim of Being ‘The Prize’ in Conflict with Girlfriend: The Alfredo rapper seemingly brushed off her accusations with a concise tweet that read, “The yams.”
Gibbs began dating the adult film star in 2020 and openly shared their relationship on social media, from romantic getaways to Paris to wearing matching Cubs jerseys.
However, Destini, also known as The Fit Mami, alleged that the rapper abruptly cut off communication earlier this year upon learning about her pregnancy, despite previously expressing a desire to start a family together. Akademiks’ birthday tweet follows closely after Freddie Gibbs took a jab at the podcaster for reportedly struggling to attract an audience at The Roots’ Picnic in Philadelphia earlier this month.
When tweets circulated claiming that only a handful of people showed up to his live taping of an episode of Off the Record, Gibbs reveled in his rival’s misfortune by sharing a viral video of the underwhelming turnout on Twitter, accompanied by the word “Damn.”
Interestingly, a truce seemed possible when Gibbs mentioned during an interview with Funk Flex last year that he wanted to have a “sit-down” with Akademiks and suggested that they could potentially get along if they got to know each other.
“I have love for Akademiks,” he stated. “We should have a conversation, but he had to get called out for all the things he’s been saying. He had to.”
Gibbs continued, “I think if we were to talk, we’d probably be cool. I can take it; I embrace everything he says. But he has to be prepared to receive it in return.”
