50 Cent has emerged victorious in the $1 billion lawsuit filed by former drug kingpin Cory “Ghost” Holland over the hit series Power. The legal battle, initiated in 2021, accused 50 Cent and co-creator Courtney Kemp of stealing Holland’s life story for the plot of the STARZ show.
Holland claimed that his 2007 CD titled Blasphemy, which he sent to Kemp’s father, detailed his life and was used without his permission to create the series. He hoped the CD would help him transition from the drug trade to a legitimate career.
However, Judge Analisa Torres ruled in favor of 50 Cent, stating that the show did not directly reference Holland, a requirement for a defamation claim. She added that any similarities were purely coincidental.
Holland had also filed another lawsuit, alleging that 50 Cent and his associates harassed and threatened him by playing a song near his home. Despite these claims, the court’s decision marks a significant win for 50 Cent and the creators of Power.
