In a recent interview with XXL, 50 Cent, the G-Unit mogul, discussed the significance of relationships within the music industry and made some intriguing remarks regarding Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s success.
During the conversation, 50 Cent brought up his appearance at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show and how the concept of relationships plays a role in such events. He then shifted the focus to Jay-Z’s career, implying that his association with Beyoncé may have contributed to his numerous Grammy wins, suggesting that his mainstream success could be partially attributed to their marriage.
Referring to the Carter family’s impressive collection of accolades, 50 Cent pondered if the recognition was more of a public relations tactic. He admitted that while he didn’t place much importance on trophies, he valued financial success and the impact of his raw content on conservative audiences.
Comparing his experiences with Jay-Z’s, 50 Cent acknowledged the rapper’s introspective nature and how it might not be immediately apparent in public settings. He believed that recognition and honors might come later for Jay-Z, despite not receiving certain awards during the same period in his own career.
Looking back on his Best New Artist nomination at the 46th Grammy Awards, where his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ achieved significant success, 50 Cent remained philosophical about not winning the award. He acknowledged that the music industry might not have been ready for a figure like “50 Cent” at the time, reasoning that they might have been cautious about influencing younger audiences.
