Young Thug and YSL’s racketeering trial has hit another snag with the recent recusal of the newly assigned judge due to a potential conflict of interest.
On Wednesday, July 17, Judge Shakura Ingram, who had only taken on the case two days earlier, issued an order recusing herself. The judge cited a perceived conflict of interest stemming from her former deputy’s involvement in the case.
The deputy had been accused over a year ago of smuggling contraband to YSL defendant Christian Eppinger, leading to the severance of Eppinger’s case from the rest of the defendants.
Judge Ingram expressed concerns that her former deputy might be called as a witness in future proceedings. “Because this Court’s former assigned deputy could be called as a witness in any future proceedings in this case, the Court may be called upon to assess this deputy’s credibility, or rule on matters related to her criminal prosecution,” she wrote. “This may undermine the public’s confidence in the impartiality of the proceedings.”
As of now, no new judge has been assigned to the case. The trial’s continuation remains uncertain, adding yet another layer of complexity to the high-profile case involving Young Thug and the YSL crew.
