Young Thug, the American rapper, has been rushed to the hospital with a medical emergency ahead of his court date. The news has shocked his fans, and his lawyers have expressed concern for his well-being. The incident took place on May 11 while he was in court for his ongoing trial.
According to reports from WSB-TV, the Atlanta ABC affiliate, the proceedings were halted as the rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, was rushed to a nearby hospital. His lawyer, Keith Adams, told the Fulton County magistrate that Williams had a history of medical issues, including a similar incident at Cobb County Jail a few months ago.
Adams also mentioned that Williams has been sleep-deprived and is mandated to wake up between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on court days, with not more than five hours of sleep per night. By the end of the week, he is fighting to pay attention to the goings-on in his case.
The details about Young Thug’s illness were not released to the public due to medical privacy laws. However, Judge Glanville granted Adams permission to visit his client in the hospital.
The rapper’s lawyers had previously petitioned the Fulton County court to release him on bond, citing less-than-ideal conditions in prison. However, their request was denied.
Later, Young Thug’s lawyers released a statement claiming that their client was now “fine” and ready to proceed with the trial. The rapper faces eight charges in the 65-count indictment, including conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and an array of weapons and drug charges.
The trial involves several co-defendants, including Gunna, Young Thug’s brother Unfoonk, Slimelife Shawty, Lil Duke, YSL co-founder Walter Murphy, and Antonio “Obama” Sumlin. Some of them, including Gunna, have already taken plea deals.
If convicted of all charges, Young Thug faces up to 25 years in prison. The ongoing YSL RICO trial has seen several pre-trial issues, including schizophrenia diagnoses and attorneys getting jailed for possessing drugs.
